AOM’s Infusion Suites Offer New Choice for Comfort and Care

PatientProvider

As the leading provider for home infusion therapy for more than 30 years, patient comfort and well-being are important aspects of AOM’s daily focus. “We know many patients love getting treatment in the privacy of their home,” says John Vlahopoulos, chief clinical officer at AOM. “But we also want to ensure patients who may not want to be infused at home — or who don’t need to be infused at home — have a safe, convenient place for their treatments. That’s why we are creating places where patients can receive the same expert, one-on-one care as our home infusion patients.”

AOM Launches New Infusion Suites

New, state-of-art ambulatory infusion suites (AIS) are an extension of AOM’s patient-centric approach to care.

“Our infusion suites have been custom designed with our patients in mind. They’re warm and inviting spaces where patients can relax during their infusion,” Vlahopoulos explains. “Each offers a safe and comfortable environment with amenities that include easy scheduling and medicine management, accessible free parking, Wi-Fi, television — even healthy snacks. Patients are treated in a private infusion room with an expert infusion nurse by their side throughout their treatment.”

By offering the option to receive life-changing infusion therapy at home or at an AOM infusion suite, AOM offers flexibility, comfort and a sense of control that contributes to well-being. That power of choice can help patients stick to their treatment schedules.

“For example, some patients may not have the space in their home for infusion treatments,” Vlahopoulos adds. “They may have young children or pets they worry about. By offering options, we make it easier for them to stay on schedule when it comes to taking their medication. Afterward, patients enjoy the freedom to return to their normal lifestyle and work activities — without the need for home preparation.”

Right now, AOM has state-of-art infusion suites located in Brooklyn, New York and Arlington, Texas, with plans to expand its AIS footprint in the future.

Infusion Suites Pair Convenience with Safety

For many patients, AOM infusion suites offer a chance to get out of their homes and connect with others. A fully stocked on-site pharmacy means there’s no waiting for infusion medications to be delivered to your home. Scheduling is very flexible and offers more choices for available appointments.

AOM’s infusion suites are best suited to patients whose visits are typically shorter but it’s not limited to this. Your Care Team will advise you regarding the best infusion site for treatment based on your diagnosis and needs.

Most importantly, patients treated at an AOM infusion suite receive care from a warm, friendly and highly skilled infusion nurse. “Every member of AOM’s specialty nursing team is best in class, with many holding specialty certifications, including Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) and Immune Globulin Certified (IGCN),” explains Sheila Iacono, AOM’s vice president of nursing operations.

Iacono notes another important benefit. “Research shows treatment at an infusion suite is safe too. Patients aren’t exposed to the broad range of pathogens or illnesses that boost the risk of infection during treatment in hospitals or skilled nursing facilities. After treatment, patients can go about their day and return home when they want.”

Infusion Suites Offer Real Cost Savings

Everyone is concerned with the costs of prescription medicines. And that includes specialty medications used to treat rare and complex health conditions. While they are life-saving and life-changing, they can place patients under financial pressure. AOM Infusion is helping dial down the stress by lowering costs.

“A study by the National Home Infusion Association shows infusion therapy at an AIS center or in-home setting can save patients money — costing three to five times less,” Vlahopoulos reveals.

Another study by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) shows patients can save as much as $7,000 when treated at an infusion center instead of a hospital, and about $1,400 when they go to an infusion center instead of their doctor’s office. On average, hospitals charge 108% more than infusion centers for the exact same medications!

The significant savings is due in no small part to the personalized attention AOM specialty pharmacists and insurance liaisons give to every one of our patients.

“Many times, doctors don’t order a specific brand of medication. Instead, they prescribe the dose and frequency,” Elizabeth “Betsy” Kisthart, RN, BSN, explains. “Our insurance team looks at the medication formulary to see which brands are approved by your insurance provider. They let the pharmacy know so you aren’t sent a huge out-of-pocket bill for a medication that isn’t covered by your health insurance benefits. Next, our pharmacists consider each covered medication from a clinical perspective to find the best match for you.”

This attention to detail is a big part of the AOM Difference.
